WHAT ONCE WAS
What once was warm
nimble
soft
full of life
over time
covered in ice.
Rigid, cold
she once was told.
It became hard to see
there was any other way to be.
Layers of frost piled.
It became hard to see
how anyone smiled.
Would you want to walk a mile
in those shoes?
So worn
with insides so torn.
Seasons passed
worries amassed
hidden behind the mask.
Until one day,
she asked,
“could there be more?”
She dug deep
into her core.
By shining the light
she could see
ice, glimmering bright.
It comes with a cost,
but there’s beauty in frost.
Lessons taught.
She could see the light
brought
by the soul’s dark night.
She began to see
shedding those layers
brought answers
to her prayers.
She learned to push through,
and so the fire within
once again
started to brew.
